Clos du Gravillas, Muscat de St Jean de Minervois, Douce Providence 2014
Location: The tiny village of St Jean de Minervois is in the hills halfway between the villages of Minervois and Saint-Chinian. Clos du Gravillas was re-created in 1999 in St Jean de Minervois by Nicole Bojanowski, having existed on the same premises since the 1940s. Nicole is best known for her pure Carignan wines and her Grenache-based white Minervois, though she's starting to make a reputation for her floral fortified Muscat de St Jean, the wine the village is famous for, and a following for her daring blends.
Vineyard: The Bojanowskis work their vineyard entirely by hand. Everything is short pruned, the soil is tilled to aerate it, no chemicals are used other than some sulphur spray (to prevent mildew), there is a green harvest to eliminate unripe grapes. The domaine is certified organic.
The wine is floral, fragrant and fruity with aromas and flavours of orange flower, honeysuckle and pink grapefruit. A refreshing, tangy finish.
