Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre, Nine Popes, Charles Melton, Australia 2012
The Barossa Valley is renowned for its powerful Shiraz and Charles Melton was one of the region's pioneers. He modelled this wine on everything he loved about Chateauneuf-du-Pape; but has since gone on to earn a deserved international reputation of his own.
The Charles Melton approach is for a full-bodied wine with intense fruit, balance and freshness. This wine is rich and complex, with heaps of sweet, plummy fruit and chocolate. A period spent in new oak gives a hint of vanilla which lifts the flavours further. Excellent depth of flavour and the wine finishes with balanced tannins.
This wine is drinking very well now but we think it will reach its peak around 2017.
