Vin de Pays du Val de Montferrand Blanc « Grande Cuvee », Domaine de l'Hortus, Languedoc, France 2012
This is the most northerly of the Coteaux du Languedoc regions, where the vines grow in pebbly, limestone and clay soil amidst the beautiful open countryside of the garrigues. The discrepancy between the hot daytime and cool night time temperatures in summer and autumn is favourable for wine production and the region produces smooth, concentrated and fruity red wines with hints of violet and plenty of local herbs and spices. Jean Orliac is one of the top producers in Pic Saint Loup and his wines are to be found in many of the top French restaurants
Deep gold in colour, intensely aromatic with a profound nose of lime blossom, acacia, honeysuckle and allspice. You will sense the toasty/buttery oak on the mid-palate, with a ripe unctuous long finish with peaches and apricots. Alloow the wine to develop and soften in the glass to get the most out of it. Try serving it cellar temperature and allow the complex aromas to express themselves.
