Chinon ‘Coteau de Noiré’ Philippe Alliet, Loire Valley, France 2011
The 'Côteau de Noiré' lies east of Chinon, upstream, between Chinon and Cravant-les-Côteaux, although still within sight of the town's famous château.
It has a remarkable appearance, revealing tempting aromas of cherries, blackcurrant fruit, vanilla, tar and nuances of perfumed tobacco.
Yet more flavours reveal themselves with time in the glass. There is preciseness, purity, and a haunting tinge of smoke.
The palate is dry, restrained, showing plenty of structure and grip, in keeping with the vintage and the style. Beautiful.
